Connecting our Culture to the World
Looking forward to the future
In order for us to move forward with insight we must look at what has come before us. This concept bodes well for future generations and assists us all in gaining a deeper understanding of our own historical happenings.
In New Zealand our Tangata Whenua (people of the land) of times gone by, shaped what is here today. There are many historical happenings that have been interpreted in a variety of ways and stories have been past on from generation to generation. All our Tangata Whenua share a healthy respect and love of our whenua (land) and much of our history has close connections to land.
In January 2007 Destination Lake Taupo will begin undertaking a Tangata Whenua (People of the land) History Project. The relationship that Tangata Whenua (People of the land)
have with their homelands is intensely spiritual and overwhelmingly respectful. In order to truly draw a clear picture of many of the important stories of the Lake Taupo region Destination Lake Taupo will embark on a project to re-tell some of these stories from Tangata Whenua perspective.
