Taupo Museum. Photographs by Alan Knowles. Touring exhibition brought here thanks to Creative Taupo. Alan Knowles took a year to photograph this delightful exhibition at the Griffins Factory in Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt. This plant threatened with closure, is the largest employer in the Hutt Valley and the biggest biscuit factory in New Zealand. It still manages to keep its community identity through old fashioned business practices. A loyal, stable staff seems to be the key and a gold watch is still awarded to staff after twenty years’ of service. The exhibition includes people at work as well as artistic shots of biscuit moulds and processes. There is something reassuring about these biscuits, with their familiar names, shapes, tastes and smells. Everybody can relate to the pictures displayed.
