The Bonita Ironman New Zealand, one of New Zealand's biggest international sporting events is held each year right in the heart of the Central Plateau. With an average of 40 countries represented by the 1,200 taking part it is the ultimate triathlon. Not just an event but a journey of self discovery. You don’t swim 3.8kms, bike 180kms and run a full 42.2kms marathon and not learn a little about yourself. This is a life changing experience for many of the participants and if you want to know where the biggest party in town is, just come down to the finish shute after dark and party with us until midnight.

The Taupo Home and Garden Show is next to take the spotlight. Come and enjoy a preview of upcoming trends, innovative products and expert advice on all things home and garden. You are guaranteed to walk away with lots of great new ideas.

Taking us out onto the crystal clear waters of Lake Taupo is the Trans Taupo Paddle. The biggest open water paddle in New Zealand covers the 44km from Turangi to Taupo in either solo or team format.

Rolling off towards months end is one of New Zealand’s classic road cycling events. The Avanti 100km Flyer is a flat, fast course from Rotorua to Taupo and a great way to take in the scenery and enjoy a few hours in the saddle with 3,800 likeminded, positively charged people.

MotoTT Motorcycle Track Day

MotoTT hold regular Motorcycle track days at Taupo Motorsport Park. These track days are a fun, non competitive environment to improve your bike handling and riding skills. Go as fast or slow as you like with no cars (or police) to worry about. Riders are given sessions catering for experts through to trackday first timers and novice riders.

Annual 4 Wheel Drive Event for 4 x 4 owners and their families. The course runs over striking farmland west of Taupo and is suitable for all 4 wheel drive vehicles with low ratio & good road tyres. A great way to try out your vehicle and driving skills off-road, with the assistance of members of the Taupo 4 Wheel Drive Club. Easy alternatives have been included for those runs that are more challenging.

The duathlon is for children aged 7 to 15 and is a great way to involve kids and families in the weekend of racing. The prize giving will be an opportunity to meet some of the drivers.

Around New Zealand Air Safari 2010

The Air Safari flies into Taupo for lunch hosted by the Taupo Aero Club from 10.00am to 2.00pm. The Taupo stopover is one of 17 airfields that the Safari will fly to. Up to 75 Aircraft will be taking part with over 220 entrants, from Britain, Australia and New Zealand. This is a great way to learn more about sport flying with the Taupo Aero Club. Our Charity Partner, Life Flight Trust Air Ambulance will have personnel there - come out & meet the pilots, view the aeroplanes & helicopters & enjoy the spirit of the Air Safari.

Open to anyone with a bike! This legendary road cycling event takes competitors on a fast, fun and scenic journey from one world famous tourist destination to another. Cyclists have the option of riding solo or in relay teams of two with drink/aid stations provided along the way. The event hosts over 3,500 riders annually, so dust of that bike and join in the fun. 100k, what a great milestone!
