Government

Taupo District Council & Turangi Community Board 

The local government body, Taupo District Council, has the most direct affect upon the Lake Taupo area and community. The Turangi Community Board represents the southern part of the Lake Taupo region. Both Taupo and Turangi have sister city relationships with locations in New Caledonia and Japan.

Regional

The Taupo District fits mainly under the Waikato Region, however, we are also part of the Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay and Manawatu-Wanganui Regions. These Regional Councils are involved with environmental and planning issues. 

Land, water, soil, air, coastal and geothermal resources in the central North Island are protected and managed by Environment Waikato Regional Council. They also manage biosecurity, civil defence and land transport.
