Rangitira Point
sheltered waters
Rangitira point is a beautiful backdrop to Taupo, with its bush clad arms stretching out into Lake Taupo from Acacia Bay. The point can be accessed by following the Acacia Bay road. It is a popular focus point for boats and fisherman with its sheltered waters making a tranquil haven for trolling fisherman or boaties. Rangitira Point is famous for its rock carvings which can only be viewed from the water, so many tour operators offer excursions to see them.
There is a car park and walking track out to the point through fivefinger-kohuhu, kowhai, and other natives trees. A natural habitat for most NZ common native birds and a range of water fowl along the lakeshore.
